Change Yosemite Server Backup Service Startup

  • Last updated on

The Yosemite Server Backup Service lets you run backup jobs automatically and unattended. The service makes sure your scheduled backup jobs run even when the machine reboots after a power loss. You may need to stop the service while it is running or start it up again if the service is interrupted. You may also need to start up the service manually in certain circumstances.

Change Start Up on a Windows Server

You can manage the Yosemite Server Backup service from the Windows Services screen. For an explanation of managing Windows services, please refer to the Microsoft documentation for the Service Control Manager.

Changing the Startup type for the Yosemite Server Backup service to Manual or Disabled means that other machines cannot access this machine to perform backups unless Yosemite Server Backup is actually running. This means that files on this machine will not be backed up during routine backups for this machine. Before disabling the service, you should evaluate the impact that this decision will have on your company's backup and restore policies

To change how the Yosemite Server Backup service starts up when Windows starts:

  1. On the Windows desktop, click the Start menu.
  2. In the Start Search box, type services.msc and press Enter.
  3. In the Services dialog box, right-click Yosemite Server Backup and select Properties.
  4. From the Startup type list box, select how you want Yosemite Server Backup service to start up when you restart Windows,
  5. Click OK.

Change Start Up on a Linux Server

On Linux platforms, the Yosemite Server Backup service, or daemon, is designed to run automatically each time the system is restarted. The daemon program ( ytlinsvc ) is located in the Yosemite Server Backup directory.

To access the service in the default installation directory:

  1. Type cd /usr/local/barracuda/yosemiteserverbackup/ytlinsvc

  2. Press Enter

If you have disabled this automatic startup of the service, use one of the following commands to manage the service:

  • To start the Yosemite Server Backup service automatically when your computer starts up

  1. Type ./ytlinsvc –I
  2. Press Enter
  • If Yosemite Server Backup is already installed, to start the service:
    1. Type ./ytlinsvc –s
    2. Press Enter
  •  If Yosemite Server Backup is already installed, to stop the service:
    1. Type ./ytlinsvc –x
    2. Press Enter
