How to Create and Apply Custom User Objects

  • Last updated on

A user object contains a list of users that can be used in firewall rule conditions. You can use the set of predefined user objects that are provided by the firewall, or you can create custom user objects. Your custom user object can contain other user objects.

Create a User Object

In this example, create a user object for all users that are members of the group 'Product Management'. The name of the target group is 'prodman'. Because the default value for the user is *, no changes have to be made in the tab User:

  1. Go to FIREWALL > User Objects.
  2. In the Custom User Objects section, click Create User Object.
  3. The Create User Object window opens.
  4. Enter a Name for the user object, e.g., 'Product management'.

  5. Enter an optional Description.
  6. Select the Group tab.
    • Enter the name for the group, e.g., 'prodman'.
    • In the Group Match table, click + to create the matching group.
      enter_group_match.png
    • Click Add to add the matching group to the user object.

  7. Click Save.

The user object is displayed in the Custom User Objects table.

The user object is also displayed in the list Valid For User in the Advanced tab of the Add Access Rule window.

  3. In the Edit User Object window, edit the settings for the object.
  4. Click Save.

Delete a User Object

  1. Go to FIREWALL > User Objects.
  2. In the Custom User Objects table, in the column Actions, click the trash can icon for the object that you want to delete.
  3. Click OK to delete the user object.
