Installing the Barracuda VPN Client for macOS

The Barracuda VPN Client for macOS lets you directly connect to configured VPN servers or through HTTP, SOCKS4, or SOCKS5 proxies using different protocols. The Barracuda VPN Client for macOS features all popular encryption algorithms such as AES256 or 3DES, as well as other popular authentication methods such as X.509 certificate authentication.

Barracuda VPN Client version 5.1.7 and 5.3.x for macOS is available for download in the Apple App Store. The current version from the App Store will also be available on the Barracuda Download Portal under NAC / VPN Client.

Install the Barracuda VPN Client on macOS 10.15 and higher

Barracuda VPN Client version 5.1.7 for macOS 10.15 and higher supports the latest ARM architecture.

Step 1. Download the Installation Files

Download Barracuda VPN Client for macOS from the Apple App Store

After successful download, the configuration files will be located under the following path: /Users/username/Library/Group\ Containers/group.com.barracuda.Barracuda-VPN-Client/.barracudavpn/. Note, that Library and .barracudavpn are hidden folders.

In order to guarantee a clean setup it is recommended to do a fresh profile setup after downloading the client. Do not copy old configuration files.

Step 2. Install the Barracuda VPN Client

Install the Barracuda VPN Client on a dedicated macOS workstation.

  1. Open the app.
  2. Confirm the popup message to allow the system to add the VPN configuration.

Install the Barracuda VPN Client on macOS 10.14 and lower

This version is only supported on macOS 10.14 and below.

Step 1. Download the Installation Files

Download Barracuda VPN Client for macOS from the Barracuda Download Portal.

  1. Click the Support link on the upper-right of the page.
  2. Select CloudGen F downloads.
  3. Select NAC / VPN Client in the Type column.
  4. Download the Barracuda VPN Client for your firmware version. For example: Barracuda VPN Client X.X.X for macOS
Step 2. Install the Barracuda VPN Client

Install the Barracuda VPN Client on a dedicated macOS workstation.

  1. Double-click the setup file for the Barracuda VPN Client (e.g., VPNClient_X.X.X _OSX.pkg).
  2. When the Welcome screen opens, click Continue.

  3. Chose to install the Barracuda VPN Client at the default location, or click Change Install Location and select another target location.

  4. After you have chosen your install location, click Install.

  5. Click Close. The installation completes, and a System Extension Blocked window will is displayed.

    The system extension must be enabled in the Security & Privacy settings within 15 minutes. Reinstall the VPN client to restart the timeout.

  6. Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy.
  7. Click Allow next to the "System software from developer Matthias Nissler was blocked from loading" block message to enable the system extension.
