How to Uninstall the Barracuda VPN Client for macOS

To uninstall the Barracuda VPN Client for macOS and all of its components from a system, remove the Barracuda VPN Client executables using the command line. Make sure that your local user account has the required administrator rights to uninstall the Barracuda VPN Client.

Before You Begin

Before uninstalling the Barracuda VPN Client, close the program and terminate any established VPN connections.

Uninstall the Barracuda VPN Client version 5.1.7 and higher

  1. If a Barracuda VPN Client shortcut was created in the Dock, remove the shortcut.
  2. Open a command line window.
  3. Remove the Barracuda VPN Client executables. At the command line, enter:
    • rm -rf /Applications/Barracuda\ VPN\ Client.app
    • rm -rf /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Group\ Containers/group.com.barracuda.Barracuda-VPN-Client

      You can also delete these executables with the Finder.

The Barracuda VPN Client and all of its components are now completely removed from the system.

Uninstall the Barracuda VPN Client version 4.0 and higher

  1. If a Barracuda VPN Client shortcut was created in the Dock, remove the shortcut.
  2. Open a command line window.
  3. Remove the Barracuda VPN Client executables. At the command line, enter:
    • rm -rf /Applications/BarracudaVPNClient.app
    • rm -rf /Users/[USERNAME]/.barracudavpn

      You can also delete these executables with the Finder.

  4. (Optional) To remove kernel extensions (.kext) that have been deprecated since macOS 10.15.4, enter:
    • rm -rf /Library/Extensions/tun.kext
    • rm -rf /Library/Extensions/tap.kext

The Barracuda VPN Client and all of its components are now completely removed from the system.

Uninstall the Barracuda VPN Client version 3.6.5 and higher

  1. If a Barracuda VPN Client shortcut was created in the Dock, remove the shortcut.
  2. Open a command line window.
  3. Remove the Barracuda VPN Client executables. At the command line, enter:
    • rm -rf /Applications/BarracudaVPNClient.app
    • rm /usr/local/bin/barracudavpn
    • rm /usr/local/bin/barracudavpn.engine

      You can also delete these executables with the Finder.

  4. (Optional) To remove any certificates and licenses, enter:
    • rm -rf /System/Library/barracudavpn/*
    • rm -rf /Library/barracudavpn/*

The Barracuda VPN Client and all of its components are now completely removed from the system.

Uninstall the Barracuda VPN Client below version 3.6.5

  1. If a Barracuda VPN Client shortcut was created in the Dock, remove the shortcut.
  2. Open a command line window.
  3. Remove the Barracuda VPN Client executables. At the command line, enter:
    • rm -rf /Applications/BarracudaVPNClient.app
    • rm /usr/sbin/barracudavpn
    • rm /usr/sbin/barracudavpn.engine

      You can also delete these executables with the Finder.

  4. (Optional) To remove any certificates and licenses, enter:
    • rm -rf /System/Library/barracudavpn

The Barracuda VPN Client and all of its components are now completely removed from the system.
