Scope:
This solution replies to:
- NG Firewall firmware versions 4.2.x, 5.0.x, 5.2.x
- netfence firmware versions 4.2.x
 
Symptoms:

After a power blackout, a box doesn't start anymore but instead hangs-up as soon as lilo appears.
In case the box can be started in single-user mode, a destroyed inittab file is going to be discovered. Possibly numerous faults appear in the superblocks. 

 

 

Solution:

1. Start the box in single-user mode and run following commands:

    umount /boot
    umount /phion0
    mount -o remount,ro /
    fsck -AT -- -yf
    sync

 

2. Restart the system:

    reboot

 

If the superblock had been destroyed, the command "fsck -AT -- -yf" should fix the error.
The fsck command should as well display the "e2fs-error". If no bad blocks can be found, please run this command:

    fsck -AT -- -yfc
