Understanding the Terminology for Infrascale

  • Last updated on

The following terms are used in the Infrascale service module dashboards:

Backup and Disaster Recovery (BDR) The umbrella term for file and folder backups, appliance backups, and bare metal recovery.

Bare Metal Recovery (BMR) Data recovery and restoration performed on a server, in which the computer can be restored from “bare metal“, i.e. after a catastrophic failure. Infrascale performs bare metal recovery using a client called ShadowProtect, which is built by StorageCraft. The Infrascale BDR service module deploys ShadowProtect clients to servers using the Server Backup Configuration policy.

File and Folder Backup File and folder backup for workstations. Backup images can be stored locally, on a different computer, and uploaded to the cloud on a schedule. All these settings are defined in the Workstation Backup Configuration Policy.

Appliance Refers to the client that is deployed for specialized backups, i.e. Exchange Server or SQL. The Infrascale BDR service module includes the Infrascale Data Protection Appliance (DPA) monitoring policy, which includes the monitors and alert configurations for performing appliance backups. Note that you must purchase an appliance license from your sales representative to use this functionality.
