Barracuda SSL VPN

Why am I receiving an error that states "A path used by this reverse proxy web forward is already being used" from my Barracuda SSL VPN?

Solution #00005707

Scope:
This solution applies to the Barracuda SSL VPN.

Answer:
Due to the manner in which Path Based Reverse Proxy operates, it is only possible to support one set of UNIQUE paths in use at any one time.

As a result, it is not possible to launch a second Path Based Reverse Proxy forward that uses any paths that are already in use by another Path Based Reverse Proxy. If this is attempted, the following message is displayed when the web forward tries to launch:

A problem has occurred with this web forward.
  • A path used by this reverse proxy web forward is already being used by another active web forward session. You should either close the other session, or consider using a different type of web forward that does not have this limitation.

It is not possible to work around this limitation using Path Based Reverse Proxy. If these web forwards need to be accessed at the same time, they will need to use different types of forward.

It may also be possible to use Host Based Reverse Proxy forwards, but this would require the configuration of extra external DNS entries.

For Example:
The SSL VPN DNS name is mail.mydomain.com, so for example, they could set up another external DNS for spam.mydomain.com which points to the same IP address of mail.mydomain.com.

You can then set up a host-based web forward to the spam box, set ActiveDNS to No and set the host header to spam.mydomain.com.
