How do I set up the Barracuda Web Security Flex Directory Sync to run automatically?

Scope:

Applies to Barracuda Web Security Flex.

 

Answer:

The Barracuda Web Security Flex Directory Sync Tool can be setup to run at a scheduled date/time using the Windows Scheduler.  Following the directions below for the appropriate version of Windows:

 

Windows XP

  1. Navigate to Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks > Add Scheduled Task.
  2. Click Next to initiate the Scheduled Task Wizard.
  3. Choose Directory Sync from the list of Applications.
  4. Select how often you would like the task to run.
  5. Select any additional criteria for the scheduled time period.
  6. Enter any credentials needed to run this task.
  7. Click the open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish option and then click Finish.
  8. Modify the Run field to contain the following (including quotes): 

    “C:\Program Files\Barracuda\Directory Sync\Directory Sync Tool.exe”

    Make sure the Enabled (scheduled task runs at specific time) is selected and click OK.

 

Windows 7 and Vista (ONLY 32bit is supported)

  1. Navigate to Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Task Scheduler > Action > Create Basic Task.
  2. Provide a Task Name (i.e. Directory Sync) and click Next.
  3. Select a schedule on when you would like this task to run and click Next.
  4. Select additional criteria for the scheduled time period and click Next.
  5. Select Start a program for the Action and click Next.
  6. For the Program/Script enter the following (including quotes):

    "C:\Program Files\Barracuda\Directory Sync\Directory Sync Tool.exe”

    Under Add arguments enter: SYNC and click Next.
  7. Confirm the settings and click Finish.


Windows 8 (ONLY 32bit is supported)

  1. Hold down the Start key while pressing C to show the Charms Bar.
  2. On the Charms Bar, click Control Panel.
  3. Click the System and Security supermenu
  4. Select Administrative Tools, then select Task Scheduler.
  5. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, enter a password or confirm.
  6. Select the Action menu.
  7. Choose Create Basic Task.
  8. Provide a Task Name (i.e. Directory Sync) and click Next.
  9. Select Daily, Weekly, or Monthly, depending on how often you would like the Directory Sync Utility to perform the sync, then click Next.
  10. Select Start a program for the Action and click Next.
  11. For the Program, enter the following (including quotes): "C:\Program Files\Barracuda\Directory Sync\Directory Sync.exe”
  12. Under Add arguments enter: SYNC and click Next.
  13. Confirm the settings and click Finish.
