Barracuda Web Security Service

Does the Web Security Flex Service support Transparent Forward Proxy from my Firewall?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 5 years ago

Solution #00005806

Scope:

This solution applies to the Barracuda Web Security Flex service.

Answer:

Yes. The configuration needed for Transparent Forward Proxy is forwarding all port 80 traffic from the LAN to the External port 8080 of External IP address of your service host.

The service host can be found at the bottom of the Support Tab of the Web Security Flex Administrative Portal. You can resolve this by completing an nslookup within command/DOS on a Microsoft Windows System.

Example:
Service Host = ple7.flex.purewire.com

c:\>nslookup ple7.flex.purewire.com

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    ple7.flex.purewire.com
Address:  64.235.152.12

In this example, we will need to complete a NAT Port Forward on the firewall to forward all port 80 traffic from the LAN to the External IP of Service Host which is 64.235.152.12 and the External Port of 8080.
