How do I allow a group of users exclusive access to a URL Category or Application on my Web Security Flex?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 6 years ago

Solution #00006236

Scope:

This solution applies to the Barracuda Web Security Flex.

Answer:
The Rules list processes a request from top to bottom, processing any applicable rule until it finds a highlighted match. Once a request matches a highlighted category, it will perform the specified Action for that rule, and pass the request on to the destination without processing any more rules. In order to provide exclusive access for a group of users, a separate rule must be created which specifies categories to be allowed. The Action for this rule must be set to Log (not Block). Also, this rule must be positioned above other more restrictive rules, such as the Default Policy.

Example 1: Allow the Admin group access to the Social Networking and Travel URL categories
1. Log into login.barracuda.com

2. Click on Web Security Flex on the left side, then click Rules to enter the Rules page.

3. Click Add New Rule

4. Click the text box in Existing Group, and find the Admin group

5. Under Compliance, expand the URL Category section.

6. Click the word Leisure (not the circle), then click Social Networking to highlight it

7. While holding down the Ctrl key, click Travel, and verify that both Social Networking and Travel are now highlighted

8. On the bottom of the page, under Actions, check Log

9. Click Save Changes

10. Click-and-drag the new rule so that it's positioned above the Default Policy, but below Threat Prevention and Security and Liability. Click Save Changes

Example 2: Allow the IP range 192.168.1.0/24 access to all Communications Applications
1. Log into login.barracuda.com

2. Click on Web Security Flex on the left side, then Rules

3. Click Add New Rule

4. Click the IP Address option, enter 192.168.1.0 24 into the correct boxes, and click Add IP Address

5. Under Compliance, expand Applications

6. Click the circle next to Communications

7. On the bottom of the page, under Actions, check Log

8. Click Save Changes

9. Click-and-drag the new rule so that it's positioned above the Default Policy, but below Threat Prevention and Security and Liability.

10. Click Save Changes
