How can I configure Sender Spoof Protection on my Barracuda Email Security Service?

The Barracuda Email Security Service


At present, there is no specific Sender Spoof Protection feature within the Barracuda Email Security Service (BESS). The same effect, can,  however be achieved by configuring a Sender Filter to block at a Domain level.

Example: I have a domain, which is “test.com”, and to prevent spoofed messages coming in to that domain I will effectively blacklist “test.com”. Legitimate messages, which are sent internally between users of that domain, should not be affected because they will never pass through the cloud service (example: john.smith@test.com to joe.bloggs@test.com).

It is advised to set the filter at a Domain level rather than a Global level so there are no potential problems if messages are sent between organizations (test.com to test.org - depending on how the network / MX / routing is configured).

To set the filter:
  1. Sign in to the Barracuda E-mail Security Service as an Admin user.
  2. Navigate to the domain for which you would like to configure spoof protection.
  3. Find the tab labeled “Sender Filters”.
  4. Add the relevant filter as a new entry.
  5. Test and/or monitor to confirm desired results
