You can use VLANs to simulate several LANs on one physical network interface (but only one MAC address). The physical interface behaves as if it were several interfaces, and the switch behaves as if it were multiple switches. VLANs let multiple virtual networks share switches, cables, and routers. All VLANs created on a host interface share the bandwidth of the physical interface. However, you can configure bandwidth policies (QoS) to specify how much bandwidth an interface can use. The Barracuda NextGen Firewall X-Series can use up to 256 VLANs on one physical network interface and a maximum of 4096 VLANs globally. Only unconfigured ports can be used to create VLAN interfaces.
Create a virtual interface
- Go to the NETWORK > IP Configuration page.
In the Virtual Interface Configuration section, add an entry for the VLAN. In the VLAN configuration.
- Click Save Changes.
- At the top of the page, click on the warning message to execute the new network configuration. It can take up to two minutes for the settings to be applied.
The VLAN interface then appears in the Network Interface Configuration section. VLAN interface names are displayed in the format: p<port number>.<vlan id>
