Barracuda NextGen Firewall X

pppoe/pptp Dial-In user configuration (t-online)

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 5 months ago
Solution #00005084

Scope:
This solution replies to:
- NG Firewall firmware versions 4.2.x, 5.0.x, 5.2.x
- netfence firmware versions 4.2.x

Symptoms:

How do I set up the user configuration data using pppoe/pptp in the "Config" > "Box" > "Network" > "xDSL/ISDN/DHCP" > "xDSL Setup" configuration dialogue (e.g. for t-online user accounts)?

Solution:

Some providers (e.g. Deutsche Telekom) assign User IDs which are built up of three single IDs:

User ID (= User Access ID+ Access Number), 24 digits in the default case User Sub ID , 4 digits Provider Name .

000xxxxxxxxx ........... User Access ID (up to 12 digits)
520069204717 ........... Access (up to 12 digits)
0001 ................... User Access Sub ID
t-online.de ............ Provider Name

When supplied as whole User ID and Sub ID are separated from one another by a hash, and the Sub ID is separated from the provider name by an "@"-symbol.

Accordingly, the complete user ID is pieced together as follows:
[user_id]#[access_sub_id]@[provider_name]

The complete ID in the example above would be notated as follows:
000xxxxxxxxx520069204717#0001@t-online.de

Note:
When phion.a is used to configure the user details hash and "@" are generated automatically. Thus, hash and "@" must never be supplied! Simply enter the ciphers into the available fields.
