Eventing Service notifications cannot be delivered by Microsoft Exchange Server

Scope:
This solution replies to:
- NG Firewall firmware versions 4.2.x, 5.0.x, 5.2.x
- netfence firmware versions 4.2.x

 
Symptoms:

Email notifications the "Eventing" service sends to Exchange Servers 5.5, 2000 and 2003 cannot be delivered.


 

Solution:

Emails generated by the "Eventing" service might contain trailing spaces and dots. In contrast to "Simple Mail Transfer Protocol" (SMTP) hosts, such as Send Mail Microsoft Exchange Server doesn't accept this email format.

 

Microsoft Exchange Server has to be configured to accept emails with trailing spaces and dots. Information on this workaround is provided on the Microsoft Support Homepage:
