  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 5 months ago
Solution #00005123

Scope:
This solution replies to:
- NG Firewall firmware versions 4.2.x,5.0.x, 5.2.x
- netfence firmware versions 4.2.x

Symptoms:

Log messages like the following are reported in the log file "Log" > "Box" > "Statistics" > "cstatd.log":

Error    [1091201] *** Clock skew detected *** (time: curr time of day 41604, time of day expected 41540)

What does it mean?

Solution:

A clock skew describes the difference in time between the recording of an event and its effective incidence.

Statistics events are generally written to the log file in real-time. In case of simultaneous extensive statistics generation and a system overload, the events might be queued and written to the log at a later moment. The deviation of statistics generation and recording time is reported to the log file as "Clock skew". It does not impact the system's functionality.
