Barracuda NextGen Firewall X

DNS server settings are not updated automatically

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: one year ago
Solution #00005182

Scope:
This solution replies to:
- NG Firewall firmware versions 4.2.x, 5.0.x, 5.2.x
- netfence firmware versions 4.2.x

Symptoms:

DNS Server IP settings have been changed in "Config" > "Box" > "Administratice Settings" > "DNS Settings" . Nonetheless, DNS queries are still addressed to the formerly known DNS server(s).

Solution:

The resolver system layer does not monitor the /etc/resolv.conf file. Thus, services using this layer (in contrast to services using the OS resolver) will not recognise changed DNS server settings automatically. Examples for services using the resolver layer are a number of phibs authenticators, proxy, snmp and dhcprelay.

Restart the firmware services to update the DNS server settings manually.
In the graphical administration tool NG Admin, access the "Control" > "Box" tab, and in the "Operating System" section click the phion "Firmware Restart" button.
