Why does "Disable FTP" lead to frequent proxy crashes on my Barracuda NG Firewall?

Scope:
This solution replies to:
- NG Firewall firmware versions 4.2.x, 5.0.x, 5.2.x
- netfence firmware versions 4.2.x

 

Answer:

After setting Config > Box > Virtual Servers > <Servername> > Assigned Services > <Servicename> > HTTP-Proxy-Settings > General > "Disable FTP" to "no" the proxy may crash with lines like this:

The FTP-Service needs a bind to 127.0.0.1:<TCP Listening Port>.


  1. Navigate to Config > Box > Virtual Servers > <Servername> > Assigned Services > <Servicename> > HTTP-Proxy-Settings > Network.
  2. If you are using port 80 in HTTP you will need to change the setting. You cannot enable FTP-Service on more than one proxy.
