The statistic collect does not work over a long period

This solution replies to:
- NG Firewall firmware versions 4.2.x, 5.0.x, 5.2.x
- netfence firmware versions 4.2.x


It could be happen, that the statistic collect for the remote boxes break and if the dstatm deamon does not collect data over a longer period, the service stop working. A error message like this will be displayed on the MC box in the "Log" > "<Servername>" > "<Servicename>" >"dstatm.log"

The collecting is a very time-sensitive mechanism. If the tome of the remote boxes and the CC box differ a few minutes, the collecting service does stop its work. When the reason for the stop is not solved between a day, the service does not start again. Normally, you may solve the issue whit resetting the dstatm.db (KB article no. 24967) but if the service does not start after a couple of days, it's possible that the remote boxes generates so much of statistic data, which were listed in the /phion0/dstats/toSend files, that this files are not longer avaliable on the boxes (for default statistic data will be deleted after 30 days). So the CC gets after a start of the dstatm service a lot of toSend files with data, which are not avaliable anymore and in this the reason why the statistic collect breaks again.

To solve the problem, a total cleanup of the toSend files and the statistic database is needed. The collected statistic data on the CC is not affected.

Synchronous time:

It is necessary, that the CC box and the remote boxes uses the same time (must not use the same timezone). So please provide, that this recommend is given.

Cleanup on the remote box:

1) Login to shell on the remote box

2) Delete the old toSend files
rm -f /phion0/dstats/toSend*
3) Generate a new and actual toSend file


If you have several remote boxes, you may create a "boxexec" script on the CC to distribute it to all boxes.

 Cleanup on CC box:

1) Login to shell on the MC box

2) Delete all data files of the statcollect deamon

rm -rf /phion0/dstatm/*


Start the statistic collect mechanism:

Restart the "dstatm" service in "Control" > "Server / Service" > "dstatm" to start the statistic collection.
