Barracuda NextGen Firewall X

Log message kernel: dst cache overflow' reported in klogd.log

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 6 months ago
Solution #00005315

Scope:
This solution replies to:
- NG Firewall firmware versions 4.2.x, 5.0.x, 5.2.x
- netfence firmware versions 4.2.x

Symptoms:
Log messages like the following are reported in the log file "Log" > "Box" > "System" > "klogd.log":

2009 07 19 10:41:14     Info     kernel: dst cache overflow

What does it mean?

Solution:
The message is related to the state of the Routing Cache. It is recorded as soon as the Routing Cache empties itself due to a content overflow. The cache hence builds up anew.

The setting is located in "Config" > "Box" > "Advanced Configuration" > "System Settings" > "Routing Settings" > "Max Routing Cache Entries". By default a maximum number of 32768 entries are assigned to the Routing Cache. To avoid frequent "kernel: dst cache overflow" notifications, this value may be increased.
