How do I configure an X-Lite version 3.x softphone to connect to my Barracuda Phone System?

Scope:

This solution applies to X-Lite version 3.x softphones connecting to Barracuda Phone Systems.

 

Answer:

You will need to manually configure the X-Lite softphone in order for it to work with the Barracuda Phone System. Please follow these steps to ensure that is is properly configured. It is best to do this all from the computer running X-Lite so that you can copy and past the settings for accuracy.


From the Barracuda Phone System

For Firmware Versions 2.5.005 and earlier:
  1. Navigate to Extensions > People, and select the desired user.
  2. Scroll down to the section of the properties page labeled Phones and click Add a Phone.
  3. Select  Generic SIP Device and click the button labeled Add Phone.
  4. Click on the new Phone on the properties and select Phone Information.
  5. Click on the extension number on the left side of the window.
For Firmware Versions 2.6 and Later:

  1. Navigate to Extensions > People, and select the desired user.
  2. Scroll down to the section of the properties page labeled Phones and click Add a Phone.
  3. Select  Generic SIP Device and click the button labeled Add Phone.
  4. Click on the new Phone on the properties and select Reg Info from the section labeled Utilities for the Desired Line.

 

Note: For ease of troubleshooting, it is best to make sure that the Softphone has its own extension.

 

On the local computer:

In the X-Lite application, right-click the screen and select SIP Account Settings in the context menu which pops up. Click Add to create a new account. Please put the following settings In the window which opens:

 

In User Details:

 

Display Name - should be your Extension number

User Name - should be you Extension Number

Password – Should be the Password provided by the Barracuda Phone System

Authorization user name – Should be the Auth Username provided byu the Barracuda Phone System

Domain – Should be either the LAN Domain or WAN Domain provided by the Barracuda Phone System, including the port

 

No other settings should be changed. Save these settings and make a test call.
