How do I exempt traffic to and from my Barracuda Phone System from my Barracuda Web Filter's scanning rules?

Solution #00005371

Scope:

This solution applies to all Barracuda Phone System and Barracuda Web Filters.

Answer:

Some configurations on your Barracuda Web Filter may interfere with the Barracuda Phone System's Call Control Client and device provisioning services. This can be solved by adding an exemption to the Web Filter, which you can do in a few simple steps.

Creating an Exemption:
  1. Log in to your Barracuda Web Filter's Web UI by navigating to http://<IP Address of Web Filter>:8000
  2. Navigate to Block/Accept > IP Block/exempt.
  3. In the area labeled IP and Port Exemptions, Select All for Protocol enter the Barracuda Phone System's LAN IP Address in the field Destination IP Address, enter the Subnet Value 255.255.255.255 (Single Address) in the field Destinaton Netmask, enter a Recognizable Name (e.g. BPS Inbound) for Comment, and click Add. The rest of the fields can be left blank.
  4. In the area labeled IP and Port Exemptions, Select All for Protocol enter the Barracuda Phone System's LAN IP Address in the field Source IP Address, enter the Subnet Value 255.255.255.255 (Single Address) in the field Source Netmask, enter a Recognizable Name (e.g. BPS Outbound) for Comment, and click Add. The rest of the fields can be left blank.
Note: Barracuda Networks does not recommend placing the WAN port, if used, behind a Web Filter.
