Solution #00005611

Scope:

This solution applies to The Cisco SPA301 when connecting to Barracuda Phone Systems.

Answer:

The SPA301 is an end-of-life phone, and is not provisioned by the BPS. It can, however, be configured to register to the BPS as a generic SIP device. This can be accomplished in a few steps.

From the Barracuda Phone System

For Firmware Versions 2.5.005 and earlier:
  1. Navigate to Extensions > People, and select the desired user.
  2. Scroll down to the section of the properties page labeled Phones and click Add a Phone.
  3. Select  Generic SIP Device and click the button labeled Add Phone.
  4. Click on the new Phone on the properties and select Phone Information.
  5. Click on the extension number on the left side of the window.
For Firmware Versions 2.6 and Later:

  1. Navigate to Extensions > People, and select the desired user.
  2. Scroll down to the section of the properties page labeled Phones and click Add a Phone.
  3. Select  Generic SIP Device and click the button labeled Add Phone.
  4. Click on the new Phone on the properties and select Reg Info from the section labeled Utilities for the Desired Line.

From the SIP Device/Client:
  1. Pick up the handset of the SPA301 and dial ****. When prompted with the greeting "configuration menu" press 110# and note the IP address given.
  2. Enter the IP address provided into your Web Browser.
  3. On the configuration screen, click on Admin Login in the top right corner of the browser, then click on Advanced which is located in the same place.
  4. Click on the SIP tab and check to confirm that the value for RTP Packet Size: is 0.020. If not, change the value to 0.020.
  5. Click on the Tab for Ext 1 on the top Navigation Panel
  6. Enter the following information on the screen that loads, then click on Submit Changes:
  • Line Enable - Yes
  • Mailbox ID - Enter the Extension being configured
  • Proxy -  Enter the Domain (from LAN) IP address (or the Domain (Outside LAN) IP address for a remote phone), including the :5065, as shown on the BPS Phone Information screen.
  • Display Name - Enter The User's First and Last name.
  • Register - Yes
  • User ID - Enter the Extension being configured
  • Password - Enter the password provided in the first steps above
  • Auth ID - Enter the Auth User name provided in the first steps above
  • Dial Plan - Copy and paste this string:
    • (*xx|*xxx|[3469]11|0|00|[2-9]xxxxxx|1xxx[2-9]xxxxxxS0|**x.|**x.*x.|xxxxxxxxxxxx.)
The phone should reboot and register to the Barracuda Phone System.
