Barracuda Phone System

How do I configure my Barracuda Phone System to use my 8x8 (Packet8) Account?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: one year ago

Solution #00005680

Scope:
All Barracuda Phone Systems, all firmware versions.

Answer:

In order for your Barracuda Phone System to use your 8x8 (also referred to as Packet8 networks) account, you must add it as a SIP Provider. You will need the the following information, which 8x8 should provide for you:

  • Proxy Server Address - This is normally eps1.packet8.net
  • Username
  • Password
  • Phone Numbers (DIDs) being delivered.

Once you have this information, you can configure the connection in a few steps.

Adding 8x8 provider account:

Navigate to Providers, and select Setup A New Account. Enter the following information in the entry box which appears:

  1. For provider, choose Generic SIP (Caller ID in From) from the drop down list.
  2. Enter a name which you will recognize in the Name field.
  3. Enter the Server address  in the field marked Host. This should auto-fill the same data in the field named Realm.
  4. Leave the field named Port set to 5060.
  5. Enter your Username in the field named Username. This should auto-fill the same data in the field named Authorization Username.
  6. Enter your Password in the field labeled Password.
  7. Make sure the box labeled Requires Registration is Unchecked.
  8. Enter the Primary Phone Number for this account (usually your main business number) in the field labeled Caller ID. This will be the fall-back Caller ID for outbound calls.
  9. Click the Box labeled Install.

Assigning DIDs (Phone Numbers)

You now need to assign your phone number to the account so that we can receive calls from Bandtel. You can accomplish this by completing the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Providers and click on the account you created in the previous steps
  2. Scroll down to the section labeled External Numbers and click on the Entry Box.
  3. Enter your assigned DIDs (phone numbers) in the box, separated by a comma or a return. The DIDs MUST be formatted as  1<area code><number>, for example 17345551212.
  4. Click the button labeled ADD to complete the entry process

Please reference Solution #00004845 for instructions on how to assign routes for inbound calls.

Defining Custom Dialing Rules:

8x8 accounts require e164 dialing in order to place outbound calls. For these accounts, we will need to add two new outbound routes.

  1. Navigate to Providers, click on the 8x8 account you created in the previous steps, and click the button labeled Manage Route Definitions in the section labeled Outbound Routes.

  2. Enter a recognizable name (8x8 outbound) in the field labeled Route Name.

  3. Paste the text ^1?([2-9]\d{2}[2-9]\d{6})$:::+1$1 in the field labeled Outbound Number Pattern.

  4. Click the button labeled ADD Outbound Route.

  5. Enter a recognizable name for emergency dialing (8x8 emergency) in the field labeled Route Name.

  6. Paste the text ^911$:::+1911 in the field labeled Outbound Number Pattern.

  7. Click the button labeled ADD Outbound Route.
  8. If you wish to use 7 digit dialing for local numbers, you will need to  create a route for that. Enter a recognizable name for local dialing (8x8 local) in the field labeled Route Name. You will need to enter your area code for this route. For area code 734, you would paste the text ^(\d{7})$:::+1734$1 in the field labeled Outbound Number Pattern. Please adjust this rule for your locale.

  9. Click the button labeled ADD Outbound Route.

  10. Close the Manage Route Definition Window by clicking on the "X" in the right corner.

  11. In the section labeled Outbound Routes, select the routes you created from the drop down list, and select them by clicking the ADD button.
