Barracuda Phone System

How Do I add My Barracuda Phone System's Parking Extensions as Line Entries on My Polycom Phone?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 3 years ago

Solution #00005817

Scope:

This solution applies to Polycom Soundpoint phones Provisioned by a Barracuda Phone System with a parking lot configured.

Answer:

Barracuda Phone System firmware version 2.1 added support for assigning parking extensions to the phone using the Polycom Buddy Watch feature. This adds the ability to view the status of parking extensions and retrieve calls with a single button press.

How Buddy Watch Functions:
The Buddy Watch icons will display as line entries, and will be ordered by their speed dial index. These entries will display starting on the first line available AFTER the configured line appearances for the phone. If you have two lines appearances of Extension one, and one appearance of extension two assigned to the phone, the first buddy watch listing will start at line four. Buddy watch items show as line extensions, and will light red when the party is on the phone. They will also function as a speed dial button, enabling one touch dial for the destination.

How the phone interacts with the Parking Lot:
Once added to the phone, you can use the Line appearances to transfer calls to, and retrieve them from, the parking lot. Pressing transfer, then the Park Call extension, will par the call at the first available extension and read back the number to you. Once parked, the extension used to park the call will light red to indicate that it is in use. Yuo can also park calls directly to the extension that you wish to use with the same method. Pressing the button for any line indicator that shows in use will retrieve the call.

Please refer to Solution #4989 "How do I configure and use Parking Extensions on the Barracuda Phone System?" For information on how to configure your Parking Lot.

Adding your parking extensions to the Polycom Phone:
The first step in adding parking lot extensions is to add the auto-park extension. This line will be used to park the call.
  1. From the phone, navigate to Menu > Features > Contact Directory > More > Add.
  2. Enter the following information for this line:
    • First Name - Park
    • Last Name - Call
    • Contact - Enter the first extension assigned to the Parking Lot
    • Speed Dial index - This will indicate the order in which the lines will appear. Choose the lowest number here.
    • Label - Park Call
    • Watch Buddy - Enabled
  3. Click Save to add this entry.
You can now start adding the retrieval buttons to the phone. these are entered slightly differently:

  1. From the phone, navigate to Menu > Features > Contact Directory > More > Add.
  2. Enter the following information for this line:
    • First Name - Park
    • Last Name - 1
    • Contact - Enter the second extension assigned to the Parking Lot
    • Speed Dial index - This will indicate the order in which the lines will appear. Choose the lowest number here.
    • Label - Park 1
    • Watch Buddy - Enabled
  3. Click Save to add this entry.
Repeat the steps above for each of the extensions assigned to the parking lot except the last extension. The last extension is not used on the phone.
