What is the Microsoft RDP Client extension on my Barracuda SSL VPN?

Solution #00003797

Scope:
This solution applies to Barracuda SSL VPNs, all firmware versions.

Answer:
The Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) Client is an extension that provides full support for the features of the standard RDP client by using the standard mstsc.exe client that exists on the client PC. These features include printer redirection, smart card support and the ability to detect your local filesystem from the remote RDP session.

These features are implemented by dynamically generating an RDP connection file from the SSL VPN in order to support the additional parameters. The other RDP extensions are Java based and generally do not support the full range of configurable features.
