Barracuda SSL VPN

What is the User Database Host setting on the Barracuda SSL VPN?

  • Type: Knowledgebase

Solution #00004270

Scope:

All Barracuda SSL VPNs.

Answer:
The User Database Host setting allows the administrator to specify an additional DNS name for the SSL VPN that indicates a particular user database selection for authenticating the requesting user.
This is particularly useful in environments where there are a number of User Databases configured on the SSL VPN and the administrator does not want users to constantly have to select the database to login to.

When the user loads the SSL VPN login page by accessing the URL containing the DNS name configured in the User Database Host field the SSL VPN knows to check the associated user database for the user's credentials. Without the administrator specifying a value for the User Database Host setting the user will need to qualify their credentials by clicking the More.. link and selecting the user database containing their account.

In order for the User Database Host setting to work as intended a couple of guidelines should be considered:

  • The DNS name specified should resolve to an IP address that reaches the SSL VPN.
  • If a signed SSL certificate is expected to be installed on the SSL VPN a wildcard certificate should be selected in order to cover the multiple DNS names associated with the SSL VPN.
