How can I set Time Restrictions for policies on my Barracuda SSL VPN?

Solution #00005714

This solution applies to all Barracuda SSL VPN units, firmware version 2.1 and higher.

As of firmware 2.1, the Barracuda SSL VPN adds the ability to add log in time restrictions directly to policies, without requiring Network Access Control to be enabled.

Time restriction options can be set both when creating and editing policies, and the options available are:
  • Start Date & End Date
  • Start Time & End Time
  • Access Days
The Start and End Dates allow policies to be valid only within a specific date range. Setting a Start Date with no End Date will make the policy valid from that date; ergo setting an End Date with no Start Date will make the policy valid until that date, and policy with both will be valid within the specified date range.

Start and End Times allow policies to be valid with certain time frames, if a start or end date are not provided, then the SSL VPN will automatically use midnight in order to ensure a valid time is set in both start and end fields.

Access Days allows policies to be restricted to access on specific days of the week. If a policy should only be able to access the SSL VPN during the week, and not on weekends, then simply check the boxes for Monday through Friday.

Leaving all days unchecked will cause the system to believe no restriction is being placed on days. Checking ALL of the days will produce the same result, as it is not possible to set a restriction that blocks access on ALL days using these options.

Using these three sets of options, it is possible to setup a number of different time-based access restrictions as needed.
