Barracuda SSL VPN

Why are the Mapped Drives on my Barracuda SSL VPN running so slowly?

Solution #00005776

Scope:
This solution applies to the Barracuda SSL VPN, all firmware versions.

Answer:
During testing, Barracuda Networks technicians have found the following common causes of slow Mapped Drive performance:

  1. You are using Windows 7: When using Windows 7, we utilize a different method of providing the mapped drives.  Unfortunately this is slower than the previous implementation for XP clients. It is possible to speed this up by turning off the Anti Virus support of the SSL VPN for Network Places.
    • You can do this by logging on as ssladmin and navigating to Basic > Virus Checking and setting Enable Virus Scanning to No.
  2. Another reason for poor performance could be that you may have a local Anti Virus solution running on your client machine which is scanning all files on the Mapped Drives in real time.
    • The only solution here is to add an exception for these drives in the local scanner so that it does not check these drives.
