Why do I get the error "unable to connect to the MKS internal error" when using Vsphere and the Barracuda Web Security Agent?

Scope:

Applies to Barracuda Web Security Flex.

 

Answer:

To communicate with ESX/ESXi hosts the Barracuda Web Security Agent uses ports 80 and 443 by default. The following executable needs to be exempted in Configuration > Advanced > Exceptions (under the Default Filter Settings section) if you are getting the “unable to connect to the MKS internal error” message:

 

Vmware-remotemks.exe

 

Alternatively, Vsphere will also work with the WSA if you select the "Filter specified applications and allow all others" option under Configuration > Advanced > Default Filter Settings.
