All index files must be available on a local hard drive in order for search to quickly find any messages that match search criteria. If you are using a storage manager, then the index files are written to it, but this is only for archiving purposes; they cannot be used from the archive.
If you have a problem with the index, such as corruption of the disk that the index is on, you can recover any missing parts of the index from storage.
To restore the index,
- Log in to ArchiveOne Admin.
Expand the Repositories node, right-click on the repository, and click Restore Index.
- Click Start to begin the normal restore which restores any absent index files; if you suspect corruption in an index file you can check the box to restore all files.
Normal index restore should be fast if there are no files that need to be restored, but if you choose to restore all files, it may take some time.
If you are not using a storage manager, it is your responsibility to ensure you have backups of the index files as well as the archive files.
