Barracuda Email Protection offers flexible deployment options to fit any email environment – MX record-based configurations, API-driven integration, and inline deployment. Filter out volumetric threats with gateway-level defenses deployed via traditional MX record changes or an inline deployment that uses Microsoft 365 mail flow rules and connectors.
Interested in inline deployment? We’re running an Early Access Program – customers who participate will work with Barracuda Networks product experts to ensure that their deployment is properly configured.
Inbound mail is routed through Barracuda’s infrastructure by Microsoft 365 mail flow rules and connectors. Emails are scanned for threats, filtered according to organizational policies, and sent back to Microsoft 365 for final delivery to recipients. Outbound mail is routed through a Microsoft 365 send connector to Barracuda Networks for DLP/compliance/threat scans before being sent externally.
Benefits
Offers seamless email integration with Microsoft 365 without requiring DNS changes.
Reduces attackers’ DNS reconnaissance value.
Provides outbound encryption.
Known Limitations
Email continuity and spooling are not available.
DKIM validation may fail for multipart MIME messages since different email platforms treat canonicalization differently during the signing process.
Because of the order in which Microsoft mail flow rules are processed, implementing inline deployment alongside archiving and journaling will lead to duplicate archived messages. Instead, using DNS MX records for deployment might be a more suitable option for your environment.
