Understanding Mailbox Sharing

  • Last updated on

This article refers to Barracuda Message Archiver Legacy Release firmware or higher, and all supported versions of Microsoft Exchange Server with shared or delegate mailboxes.

The Barracuda Message Archiver's Shared Mailbox Support feature allows a Barracuda Message Archiver user access to email based upon Microsoft Exchange Server's shared mailbox capability. To share mailboxes between users, users must delegate access by logging into their Outlook account and following the instructions in the Microsoft article https://support.office.com/en-us/article/allow-someone-else-to-manage-your-mail-and-calendar-41c40c04-3bd1-4d22-963a-28eafec25926.

The delegate must have delegate access with a minimum Reviewer permission level to access the user's Inbox.

Information from Folder Sync (Exchange Integration) tasks are used to determine shared mailboxes users have access to. After selecting the delegate permission levels, configure a nightly Folder Sync in the MAIL SOURCES > Exchange Integration page to stay up to date with shared mailbox information.

User Search

To specify whether to search for shared mailbox access in your Active Directory server, go to the USERS > Directory Services page and select Yes for shared mailbox access.

When a user searches for emails in the Barracuda Message Archiver web interface or Barracuda Archive Search for Outlook, the search results include emails from both the user's mailbox as well as all mailboxes shared with that user.

Shared Mailboxes

Shared mailboxes and their folders display in the Barracuda Message Archiver web interface.
