Onsite Managers and Device Managers are designed for different purposes. This table illustrates the differences between them and when you should use each:

Is designed for NetworksX 
Is designed for single roaming devices and environments that don’t have a server or peer-to-peer networks X
Manages both Windows and MacX 
Is OS-specific (Choose Windows or Mac) X
Communicates directly with Service CenterXX
Requires an additional MS SQL Server Express instanceX 
Can be configured to communicate to Service Center through a proxyX
