The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) has created both opportunities and challenges for MSPs backing up sensitive medical records. The September 2013 Omnibus Ruling places further restrictions on everyone involved in the “chain of custody” of electronic medical records—even when stored offsite in a backup and recovery data center.
