A Patch Health monitor lets you check the status of Microsoft patching on devices. Two patch health rules let you check:
- The status of patches.
- If the device is checking for patches regularly.
The Patch Health monitor checks whether a patch has been applied and alerts you of its status:
- Installed pending reboot
- Failed
- Installed
- Needed
- Not needed
The Device Check for Updates monitor lets you track whether your devices check for updates on a regular basis.
What You Can Do with Patch Health
Since patch status for devices is always monitored, you can:
- Set the alert notification option for a specific patch status.
- Add a patch status monitor to a monitoring policy.
For example, if you have prompt delivery of Microsoft updates specified in your SLAs, you want to be alerted when a patch fails to install, especially on critical devices or if a server requires a reboot due to a patch.
What You Can Do with Device Check for Updates
You can set an alert that will let you know if a device is having an issue communicating with Windows Server Update Services or installing patches.
