Solution #00007369

Scope:

ArchiveOne Enterprise, all versions

Answer:

OVERVIEW

There are a number of processes that occur at the top of each hour in a standard installation of ArchiveOne Enterprise.

Disabling one or more of these processes may be necessary, under guidance from Barracuda Support, to troubleshoot some resource issues. This article details which of these processes can be disabled and the method for doing so.

HOW TO STEPS

There are four processes that can be disabled:

- Check the service control manager to ensure connection to Exchange;

- Consider any queued tasks for the 'Zipmaker' process;

- Check the current size of all mailboxes listed in the mailbox manager and update the database as appropriate; and

- Update of the mailbox manager DNLookup table in the mailbox manager database.

Important: This involves editing the Windows machine registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to re-install Windows to correct them. Barracuda cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk. It is highly recommended that you create a backup of the registry before making any changes.

To disable or enable each of these individual processes see the relevant sections below.

Check the service control manager to ensure connection to Exchange:
  1. On the Archive server, open 'regedit'.
  2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\AOnePolService\Parameters
  3. Create a new DWORD called 'CheckExchangeService'.
  4. Give this DWORD a value of '0' to disable this check, or '1' to enable this check.
  5. Close the Registry Editor.
  6. In the Microsoft Services Console (services.msc), restart the ArchiveOne Service.

Consider any queued tasks for the 'Zipmaker' process:
  1. On the Archive server, open 'regedit'.
  2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\AOnePolService\Parameters
  3. Create a new DWORD called 'InhibitPhase2'.
  4. Give this DWORD a value of '0' to disable (ie. not to inhibit this check and allow the check to run), or '1' to enable (ie. to inhibit and prevent this check from running).
  5. Close the Registry Editor.
  6. In the Microsoft Services Console (services.msc), restart the ArchiveOne Service.

Check the current size of all mailboxes listed in the mailbox manager and update the database as appropriate:
  1. On the Archive server, open 'regedit'.
  2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\AOnePolService\Parameters
  3. Create a new DWORD called 'InhibitMailboxQuotaUpdate'.
Update the mailbox manager DNLookup table in the mailbox manager database:
  1. On the Archive server, open 'regedit'.
  2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\AOnePolService\Parameters
  3. Create a new DWORD called 'UpdateIntegrityHour'.
  4. Give this DWORD a value of '0' to '23' (in decimal) to set this process to run at the matching hour based on 24-hour clock. Set to any value of '24' or over to run this process EVERY hour. To disable this process entirely, set this DWORD to a value of 'ffffffff ' (in hex).
  5. Close the Registry Editor.
  6. In the Microsoft Services Console (services.msc), restart the ArchiveOne Service.
