MaxCompression, all versions

Answer:

OVERVIEW

This process will explain how to enable advanced tracing, save and submit the trace logs and how to subsequently reset the trace level for Max Compression Server.

HOW TO STEPS

Important: This involves editing the Windows machine registry. Using the Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to re-install Windows to correct them. Barracuda cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk. It is highly recommended that you create a backup of the registry before making any changes.

For the Console:
  1. Close the MaX Server Admin console if it is open.
  2. Open the Registry Editor by running Regedit.
  3. Navigate to: HKCU\Software\C2C Systems\MaX Compression Server\MaXAdmin\Settings.
  4. Modify the DWORD 'Trace' to set its value to '1'.
  5. Make a note of the TracePath (the default location is the Logs subfolder of the installation directory). The name of this file will be trace.log.

For the Service:
  1. On the server close the MaX Server Admin console.
  2. Run Regedit.
  3. Navigate to: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MaXServer\Parameters.
  4. Modify the DWORD 'Trace' to increase its value to '2'.
  5. Close Regedit.
  6. Restart the Max Compression Server Service to bring the increased logging level into effect.
  7. Reopen the Admin console and connect to the server.
  8. Reproduce the error and gather logs (the default location is the Logs subfolder of the installation directory). The name of this file will be MaxServiceTrace.log

Once you have completed diagnostics, to reset logging back to standard level:
  1. On the server close the MaX Server Admin console.
  2. Go to Regedit.
  3. Navigate to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MaXServer\Parameters.
  4. Modify the DWORD 'Trace' to decrease its value to '1'.
  5. Close Regedit.
  6. Restart the Max Compression Server Service to bring the new logging level into effect.
