Barracuda Backup

Why are my Backup Reports showing an error for Exchange Message Level Backup messages that contain a plus-sign (+) in the subject with Exchange 2007 and Windows Server 2008?

Solution #00004389

Scope:

Applies to Barracuda Backup Service using WebDAV for Message Level backups of Exchange 2003 or 2007.  Does not apply to Message Level backups using EWS in Exchange 2007 or 2010

Answer:

If your backup reports show warnings that messages in a user or set of users are not being backed up, the messages in question have may have a plus-sign (+) character in them. To work around this, do the following:

On the Outlook Web Access server run the following command at the command prompt to get a list of virtual hosts and directories on the web server.

# C:\Users\administrator>%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd list site  SITE "Default Web Site"  id:1,bindings:http/*:80:,https/:443:,state:Started)

Now that you know the name of the Site on the IIS server, you can run the command to disable the Double Escaping Request Filtering.

Example:

%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd set config "Default Web Site/Exchange" /section:system.webServer/Security/requestFiltering -allowDoubleEscaping:True /commit:apphost

This will take immediate effect on the web server and will save it to be persistent.

Additional Notes:

This command must be run on all servers that have mailboxes on them, as web services are installed there and used by the OWA server to access mailboxes on that server.
