How do I configure the Barracuda Backup Agent for the BBS to work with a clustered SQL environment?

Solution #00004655

Applies to Barracuda Backup Service firmwares 4.0 and below

The solution below is for Active/Passive cluster environments.  For an Active/Active cluster there is no configuration change needed.  Simply install the Barracuda Backup Agent on one of the active nodes, and backups will be performed normally.

In order to configure the Agent for use with a clustered SQL you will first need to know the server name and instance name for the SQL instance you wish to protect.

You will then edit the "bbconfig.ini" file located under the following folder by default:

C:\Program Files\Barracuda\Barracuda Backup Agent\Config\

Add a section to the bottom of this file for:

[SQL Server]

To this section you will add a line that defines to the Agent where to go to access this SQL instance.

The line being added will depend on whether this SQL instance is the default local instance or a named instance.

For a default instance the line should look like:

Where $sqlinstancename$ is the name of this clustered instance.

For a named instance of SQL it should look like:

Where $virtualservername$ is the name of the virtual server setup here, $instancename$ is the name of the clustered instance, and $sqlinstancename$ is the instance name you wish to appear in the Control Panel.

In both cases the right hand value will be the string you would use to connect to the SQL server using SQL manager.

Applies to Barracuda Backup Service firmware 6.1 and above the config file does not have the .ini:
