Barracuda Reference / FAQ

Why do I see "C:\fakepath" placed in place of my actual path using the Upload functionality on my Barracuda Product?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 10 months ago

Solution #00005634

Scope:
This solution applies to all Barracuda Networks products allowing file upload functionality.

Answer:

You may notice that when uploading files to your Barracuda device (backup configuration files, SSL certificates, etc) that after selecting your file, the file path reflected in the text box looks like:

c:\fakepath\file

Following the specifications of HTML5, file paths are hidden by default in some browsers, notably Internet Explorer 8+ and some versions of Mozilla Firefox.

This is considered a security feature of the browser, but adding the site in question to the "Trusted Sites" list in the browser's configuration will allow the full path to be disclosed.
