How to Configure a Local Database for SSL VPN

After you configure the SSL VPN service, configure the local database. Create a client network and key for the SSL VPN. Then configure the client-to-site settings for it.

In this article:

Create a New Client Network

  1. Open the VPN Settings page (Config > Full Config > Virtual Servers > your virtual server > Assigned Services > VPN-Service).
  2. Click Lock
  3. Click the Client Networks tab.
  4. Right-click the table and select New Client Network.
  5. Edit the following settings for the client network:

    SettingDescription
    NameThe name for the network. For example, SSLVPNnetwork.
    Network AddressThe default network IP address. For example, 192.168.100.0. This IP address is used for populating the personal license.
    GatewayThe gateway address. For example, 192.168.100.254.
  6. Click OK. The client network is then displayed in the Client Networks table.
  7. Click Send Changes and Activate.

Create a Server Key

  1. Open the VPN Settings page (Config > Full Config > Virtual Servers > your virtual server > Assigned Services > VPN-Service).
  2. Click Lock.
  3. Click the Service Certificates/Keys tab.
  4. Right-click the table and select New Key.
  5. In the Key Name field, enter a name for the key. For example, SSLVPN.
  6. Click OK.
  7. To adjust the key length, click the arrows next to the Key Length field.
  8. Click OK. The key is then displayed in the Service Certificates/Keys table.
  9. Click Send Changes and Activate.

Configure the Client-to-Site Settings

  1. Open the Client to Site page (Config > Full Config > Box > Virtual Servers >  > Assigned Services > VPN-Service).
  2. Click Lock.
  3. Right-click the lower table and select New personal license.
  4. When the Choose Index window opens, click OK.
  5. Edit the following personal license settings:

    Used by

    In this field, enter a name. For example, John Smith.

    Stat. NameThe name for the service statistics. For example, JohnSmithSSL.
    NetworkFrom this list, select the name of the client network that you created for the SSL VPN. For example, SSLVPNnetwork.
    User IDThe name of the local user. For example, jsmith.
    VPN-TypeThe type of VPN. From this list, select select SSL Only.
    Server KeyFrom this list, select the key that you created for the SSL VPN.
  6. To change the server password, click Change Server Password.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Send Changes and Activate.

You must now create the resources for the SSL VPN. You can create the following types of resources:
