Because the SpamAssassin database may grow to a non-assessable size, it is not included in PAR files. If required, you must manually archive it. This article describes how to archive and update the database.
Archiving the Database on a Single Box
To archive the database, you can create a backup of the /var/phion/preserve/spamd/<server_servicename>/root
directory.
Barracuda Networks recommends that you create a backup of the training environment (the messages in the SPAM, HAM and FORGET folders). In a new setup, the spam filter may then be retrained with the original files. This method provides additional security because the service does not need to be stopped and restarted for archiving - the database takes care of the updating and restoring procedure.
Updating the Database on the HA Partner
To update the database in an HA setup, copy the contents of the /var/phion/preserve/spamd/<server_servicenam
e>/root
folder from the primary unit to the HA unit.
