Barracuda CloudGen Firewall

Dynamic networks (DHCP, ADSL) are not re-established automatically

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 7 months ago

Solution #00005065

Scope:
This solution replies to:
- NG Firewall firmware versions 4.2.x, 5.0.x, 5.2.x
- netfence firmware versions 4.2.x

Symptoms:

After a network failure, dynamic networks (DHCP or ADSL) are not re-established automatically.

Solution:

The dynamic networks system checks the status of the network connections by probing defined "Reachable IPs" when using ICMP as monitoring method. If the defined IP addresses are not reachable, the affected dynamic network is shut down and set up new. When no Reachable IPs are defined, the system is not able to determine whether the network connection is working or not. Thus, the system cannot re-establish the connection after a network failure.

Enter probing IPs in the "Reachable IPs" field in the affected dynamic network configuration of the system. It's a good idea to specify IP addresses that are always online (e.g. name servers, NTP time servers,...).
