  • Last updated on

The following sections describe the Microsoft 365 data protected by the Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup.

Exchange Online

Barracuda Cloud-to-Cloud Backup automatically backs up Microsoft 365 Exchange Online mailboxes that meet one of the following criteria:

  • The mailbox belongs to a standard user (not a guest), and:

    • The user account is enabled, and

    • The account has an active Exchange license, with at least one Exchange plan enabled and successfully provisioned.

OR

  • The mailbox is a shared mailbox. (i.e., its mailbox purpose is set to “shared”)

Mailboxes that do not meet these criteria, such as guest accounts or unlicensed/inactive users, are excluded from backups.

OneNote Notebooks

As of March 31, 2025, OneNote Notebook restores are no longer supported. See How to Export OneNote Notebooks.

Known Limitation

On March 31, 2025, Microsoft OneNote retired app-only authentication for Microsoft Graph APIs (Microsoft Message ID MC1011142). The change was made to enhance data security. Cloud-to-Cloud Backup uses app-only authentication and the specific change from Microsoft removed the ability to create OneNote Notebooks using app-only authentication. As a result of this change, Cloud-to-Cloud Backup will no longer be able to restore OneNote Notebooks to Microsoft 365. However, OneNote Notebooks are still able to be backed up and users can now export OneNote Notebooks from Cloud-to-Cloud Backup as an alternative recovery option. If a restoration attempt is made for a OneNote Notebook, it will fail, and a warning message will be generated in the job report.

SharePoint Online

Note: If a SharePoint site is created using a Teams template or through the creation of a Group, the data will be backed up under the Teams data source.
