Why are messages being allowed through my Barracuda Spam Firewall with a reason of "Size"?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 3 years ago

Solution #00003668

Scope:
All Barracuda Spam Firewalls, all firmware versions.

Answer:
Messages bigger than 250KB will not undergo spam scanning, and thus will not receive a spam score. Barracuda Spam Firewalls skip scanning these messages for spam because spammers are less likely to send very large messages. These messages are still examined for everything else (including IP analysis, sender authentication, recipient verification, virus scanning, custom policy, and intent), but if they pass through all of the other layers of defense, they will be allowed and the reason will be given as Size in the Reason column on the Basic > Message Log page.

Additional Notes:

250KB (or 250000bytes) is the default value, but it can be adjusted. To adjust this value, please contact Barracuda Networks Technical Support.
