Why does the message log display "454 5.7.3 Client does not have permissions error, for reason of rejection" on my Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall?

Answer:
You may receive this message when you instruct Microsoft Exchange 2003 Server to authenticate to Windows. An full example of this error message is as follows:

Deferred: <name@domain.com>: host xxx.xxx.xxx.x[xxx.xxx.xxx.x] said: 454 5.7.3 Client does not have permission to submit mail to this server. (in reply to MAIL FROM command)

To correct this error and disable this authentication feature please follow the steps below:


1. Open your Exchange System Manager.

2. Expand Administrative Groups.

3. Expand First Administrative Groups.

4. Expand Servers.

5. Expand Server Name.

6. Expand Protocols.

7. Expand SMTP.

8. Right Click and select Properties on Default SMTP Virtual Folder.

9. Select the Access tab.

10. Under the Access Control area click the Authentication button.

11. Check the Anonymous access check box.

12. Uncheck Integrated Windows Authentication.

After applying these settings, your mail will have to be requeued. Your Email Security Gateway will do this automatically.
