Why are the Spam and Not Spam buttons missing from the Barracuda Spam Firewall web interface after updating to firmware version 4.0?

  • Type: Knowledgebase
  • Date changed: 4 years ago

Solution #00004257

Scope:
All Barracuda Spam Firewalls firmware version 4.0 and above

Answer:
After updating to firmware 4.0 or higher from firmware 3.5.x on the Barracuda Spam Firewall, the Bayesian Analysis is disabled. This removes the Spam and Not Spam buttons from the message log. To re-enable these buttons, you will need to re-enable the Bayesian by navigating to Basic > Spam Checking and scrolling to Global Bayesian Analysis. Set Use Bayesian to Yes and click Save Changes

Additional Notes:

Because of significant changes in Bayesian Analysis in firmware 4.0, all previous saved Bayesian databases will be automatically removed when upgrading from 3.5.x to 4.0 or higher. In order for the Bayesian Analysis to function, you need to have 200 messages marked as Spam and 200 marked as Not Spam.

In firmware 4.0, the Spam and Not Spam buttons will replace the Whitelist and Un-Whitelist buttons. However, clicking the Not Spam button will generate a pop-up window that will display options to Whitelist or Un-Whitelist the selected message(s).
