This occurs when the virus scanner may be unavailable due to an update or a restart of the service. Any emails that arrive during this specific time frame would be deferred so the sending server can retry.
If the deferrals are happening on a scheduled pattern, it can be safely assumed that this would be due to the standard virus definition updates.
If it is the same message routinely having the problem then this may be a problematic message or something we need to review that can be causing the virus engine issues. If this is the case, please contact technical support to review.
