Barracuda Link Balancer

How do I group the WAN links on my Barracuda Link Balancer and classify the links as primary, backup, or private?

Solution #00004343

Scope:
All Barracuda Link Balancer models, firmware version 1.2 and above.

Answer:
In order to group the WAN links so that the link with the highest weight is not necessarily the next one to be used, you can assign each one a link type. The supported link types are:
  • Primary links ? used first for link balancing.
  • Backup links ? used only if the primary links are down or if they become saturated.
  • Private links ? used exclusively for traffic that matches Quality of Service rules that specify those links or for Virtual Private Networks. Private links are not used at all for default outbound or inbound link balancing.
Additional Notes:
Traffic that matches Bandwidth Management/QoS rules or passes over a VPN connection may use any WAN link: it is not limited to private links.

If you want to treat all links the same, simply using the link that currently has the greatest available capacity, set the link type for each link to Primary.
