Applies to Barracuda Link Balancer 330 Models and above, firmware version 2.0 and above.

  1. Check the Firmware Storage on the Basic > Status page of both products. If this is showing as red on either of the devices, please contact Barracuda Technical Support before proceeding.
  2. Navigate to Advanced > Backup on the active system.
  3. Create a backup of your current System configuration.

For future use you may configure Automated backups using the below solutions:

To upgrade the firmware on Barracuda Link Balancers that are in High Availability please do the following:

On the active system:

  1. On the active system, navigate to the Advanced > High Availability page, set Failback Mode to Manual. This ensures that the transfer of control from one system to the other does not happen while the system reboots after the firmware is applied.
  2. Fail over to the passive system
  3. On the now active system, go to Advanced > Firmware Update.
  4. Determine whether you should upgrade to the Latest General Release or to the Latest Early Release (if one is available).
  5. Click Download Now next to the desired firmware version. A "Download Progress" bar appears. Note: To cancel the firmware download at any time during the download process (but before you click Apply Now), click Cancel.
  6. Click Refresh to update the download progress as displayed. Continue pressing Refresh until the firmware has been fully downloaded.
  7. Fail over to the currently passive system
  8. Repeat steps 3-6 above to update the passive system first.

On the passive system:

  1. Go to the Advanced > Firmware Update.
  2. Click Apply Now to install the firmware. The installation process takes several minutes to complete, and it will cause the Barracuda Link Balancer to automatically reboot.
  3. Manually fail over so the system with the new firmware is now active.

***CAUTION*** Do not manually power-cycle the Barracuda Link Balancer at any time during the upgrade process, as doing so can cause firmware corruption.

On the now passive system:

  1. Go to the Advanced > Firmware Update.
  2. Click Apply Now to install the firmware. The installation process takes several minutes to complete, and it will cause the Barracuda Link Balancer to automatically reboot.
  3. View release notes.

Additional Notes:

When the firmware update is complete, you can failback to it and/or change the Failback Mode to Automatic if desired.

Updating or reverting the firmware causes the Barracuda Link Balancer to reboot. To minimize interruptions, update or revert the firmware outside of peak business hours.
